The Cardoner Network has been running volunteer programs since 2012 and became a registered charity in 2019. We have been working with many of our overseas partners since we began and have developed meaningful relationships through the dedicated service of our volunteers. We work with partners that we know and trust who can benefit from the knowledge and experience our volunteers can share. In return our volunteers have a unique opportunity to grow and learn while building meaningful relationships and sharing their lives with communities who have common values and can offer a very different perspective.
Cardoner Network’s mission is to nurture and accompany young adults in expressing a Christ-centred desire to love and serve those in need domestically and overseas, sustained by communities that help build a hope-filled future.
We do this through providing opportunities for young adults to serve both locally and abroad with developing communities and vulnerable populations to empower and bring hope for a better world.
The Cardoner Network began out of a conversation on the sidelines of a St Aloysius’ College rugby match about post-school volunteering opportunities that would uphold the school charism. The founder of The Cardoner Network, Fr. David Braithwaite SJ responded to this challenge by founding The Cardoner Network with the intention to provide volunteers with a transformative experience of service.
Initially, two young men volunteered for one year as community members in Vietnam and from there, the mission grew. Under the umbrella of our Two Wolves Abroad (TWA) Cardoner Volunteer Corps (CVC) program over 200 volunteers have now undertaken three-to-twelve-month service placements with partners in Thailand, Micronesia, Nepal, the Northern Territory, India, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Vietnam and Zambia. Today, our key partner communities are in Thailand, Micronesia Nepal and the Northern Territory and we will soon have volunteers in Cambodia and Timor Leste.
The TWA program also includes Immersion offerings, a shorter experience focused on reflective journeys in our partner community locations around the world. Since inception over 400 young adults have participated in these reflective journeys.
